Luca Salsi was born in San Secondo Parmense. He graduated in singing from the Arrigo Boito Conservatory in Parma, under the guidance of soprano Lucetta Bizza, specializing with baritone Carlo Meliciani. His career has seen him starring on the world's major stages: the Metropolitan in New York, Teatro alla Scala, the Royal Opera House in London, the Bayerische Staatsoper, the Washington National Opera, the Salzburg Festival, the Los Angeles Opera, the Staatsoper in Berlin, the Liceu de Barcelona, the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, the Teatro dell'Opera in Rome, the Teatro San Carlo in Naples, the Concertgebouw in Amsterdam and the Teatro Real in Madrid. He collaborates with leading conductors such as Muti, Chailly, Gergiev, Levine, Gatti, Conlon, Dudamel, Luisotti, Palumbo, Renzetti, Mariotti and Zedda, as well as with prestigious directors such as Carsen, De Ana, Minghella, Herzog, Zeffirelli, McVicar and Michieletto.
He stars in two season openings at Teatro alla Scala: in 2017 in Giordano's Andrea Chénier and in 2019 in Puccini's Tosca, on both occasions alongside Anna Netrebko and conducted by Riccardo Chailly. He opened the Verdi Festival in Parma in Verdi's Macbeth and the 2018/19 season of Teatro La Fenice, again as Macbeth (directed by Damiano Michieletto and conducted by Myung-whun Chung). He made his debut as Iago in Verdi's Otello with the Berliner Philharmoniker and is Macbeth under the baton of Riccardo Muti (Florence and Ravenna), Rodrigo in Verdi's Don Carlo at Teatro Comunale di Bologna and for the opening of Teatro Real in Madrid, Carlo in Verdi's Ernani at Teatro alla Scala, Germont in Verdi's La traviata and Scarpia in Tosca at the Opéra de Paris, the title role in Verdi's Nabucco and Gérard in Andrea Chénier at the Wiener Staatsoper, the title role Simon Boccanegra at the Salzburg Festival (with Valery Gergiev on the podium of the Vienna Philharmonic), and again Germont in La traviata at the Metropolitan Opera in New York. In 2020 he makes his debut as Alfio in Mascagni's Cavalleria rusticana with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra conducted by Riccardo Muti. He sings for the first time in Italy the part of Jago in a new production of Otello by Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, directed by Valerio Binasco and conducted by Zubin Mehta. He participates in the Teatro alla Scala production of A riveder le stelle, directed by Davide Livermore and conducted by Riccardo Chailly, broadcast by dozens of television stations worldwide.
In 2021 he takes part in Macbeth at the Wiener Staastoper, Bellini's Il Pirata and Verdi's Il Trovatore at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples, Don Carlo at the Teatro Comunale in Modena, Verdi's Rigoletto at the Teatro del Maggio Musicale Fiorentino, La Fenice in Venice and the Royal Opera House in London, Tosca at the Teatro Real in Madrid and the Bayerische Staatsoper in Munich.
He opened the 21/22 season at Teatro alla Scala as the lead in Macbeth and sang the role again at the Wiener Staatsoper and the Plau de les Arts in Valencia. He then performs Un ballo in maschera at Teatro alla Scala and with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra conducted by Muti, Rigoletto at the Royal Opera House in London and the Metropolitan in New York, Nabucco at Teatro Real Madrid, and Aida at the Salzburg Festival.
He opens 2023 with Aida at the Metropolitan in New York and the Vienna State Opera and then sings the new production of Macbeth at the Liceu in Barcelona and in concert at the San Carlo in Naples. She then debuted Puccini's Il Tabarro at the Rome Opera in the new production directed by Mariotti and later sang Andrea Chénier in La Scala and Otello at the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino.
She made her debut at Teatro Filarmonico in Verona in 2008 in Verdi's Attila.
At the Arena of Verona he debuted in 2011 in La Bohème; he returned in 2014 to perform Verdi's Un Ballo in Maschera and Aida; in 2015 he sang in the title role in Nabucco; in 2018 he took part in the Verdi Opera Night show as Rigoletto, as Amonasro in Aida and as the title role in Nabucco; in 2019 he plays Conte di Luna in Il Trovatore; in 2020 he sings at the Summer Festival for the Verdi Gala evening; in 2021 he performs as Amonasro in Aida, in Nabucco and as Giorgio Germont in La Traviata; in 2022 he sings the title role in Nabucco and Giorgio Germont in La Traviata.
He returns to the Arena di Verona for the 100th Opera Festival 2023 to perform Nabucco and Giorgio Germont again, as well as the title role in Rigoletto and Scarpia in Tosca.
