Verona Olympic Arena
The Winter Olympics are coming to the Arena di Verona
To celebrate the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics, the Arena di Verona is changing its name, officially becoming the Verona Olympic Arena. The thousand-year-old stones, which have always been custodians of art, music and entertainment, are now set to welcome the global sporting spirit, becoming the stage for the Closing Ceremony of the Olympics and the Opening Ceremony of the Paralympics. This is an event destined to go down in history: for the first time, an Olympic Ceremony will take place inside a UNESCO World Heritage historic monument.
However, this never-before-seen event is nevertheless rooted in ancient tradition. The Arena di Verona's link with sport is deep and boasts a long history, from the memorable final stages of the Giro d'Italia to the most prestigious international volleyball competitions. In 2026, these two worlds will become fully intertwined, as the Arena is transformed into an international space open to all nations.

The Closing Ceremony in the Arena
On 22 February 2026, the eyes of the world will turn to the Arena for the closing act of the Winter Olympic Games. The event will be directed by the creative team led by Alfredo Accatino (Filmmaster), already the creator of some of the most significant international ceremonies.
Here is what will make this evening so unique:
- The concept: ‘Beauty in Action’ – a tribute to beauty in motion in all its forms. Opera, music, dance, cinema, design and the most cutting-edge technologies will intertwine to celebrate human talent.
- The protagonist: Roberto Bolle – symbol of Italian excellence around the world, perfectly represents the meeting point between the strength of the athlete and the grace of the artist.
- The scenery: a drop of water – symbol of the natural cycle that connects the ice of the mountains to the sea, the visual and emotional thread of the ceremony.
Orchestra and Chorus of Fondazione Arena
The music will then travel beyond the walls of the Arena, encompassing Piazza Bra and the Philharmonic Theatre, where the Orchestra and Chorus of the Fondazione Arena di Verona will accompany the public until the very last moment of the Games.
The event will be broadcast live on TV around the world, allowing millions of viewers to enjoy the show. For those who wish to experience the emotions live, tickets are available exclusively through the Milan Cortina 2026 official channels.
The poster of Milo Manara
A design that celebrates art and sport, a timeless work. A tribute to the Arena di Verona which, for the first time in its history, will host two ceremonies of the Winter Olympic Games.
Fondazione Arena asked the cartoonist Milo Manara to create a work that depicted this historical moment and could be handed down to posterity as a special edition poster of the 103rd Arena di Verona Opera Festival.
The result is a drawing which, in a nod to Beethoven's Hymn to Joy, shows a skater dancing in the shadow of the wing of the Arena, evoking the emotions that only a night of spectacle in the Roman amphitheatre can provide.
The Torchbearers
The Olympic flame has crisscrossed the whole of Italy. The General Manager of the Fondazione Arena di Verona, Cecilia Gasdia, and the Deputy Artistic Director, Stefano Trespidi, were among the torchbearers who bore the Olympic flame to Verona on 18 January on its long journey to Milan Cortina 2026.
“Sport has always been part of my life. I was a skier and I am very familiar with the sacred fire that sportsmen and artists share. A boundless passion burns within us, pushing us beyond our limits. It was a real honour for me to carry the Olympic flame along the streets of Verona, my city. There were such powerful emotions, because we were all surrounded by loved ones. Now, our amphitheatre is preparing to welcome the Olympic Family and enter homes around the world – a huge source of pride for all Italians.”
- Cecilia Gasdia

The Opening Ceremony of the Paralympics
6 March 2026
A few days later, the Arena will once again be the star of the Games, this time lighting a new flame: that of the Winter Paralympic Games. A visionary show, also created by Filmmaster, will transform the Amphitheatre into an artistic melting pot to celebrate the strength and energy of Paralympic sport.
Here are the key moments during the evening:
- The concept: ‘Life in Motion’ – a hymn to vitality and to the future. The ceremony will focus on human ability to overcome limits, through a narrative that blends inclusion and pure spectacle.
- The protagonists: Steward Copeland and Meduza – a musical encounter between generations. The rock legend Stewart Copeland, drummer with The Police, will harmonise with the electronic sounds of Meduza, the trio of producers who have become the most-streamed Italian artist in history, creating a powerful and unprecedented soundtrack.
- The tribute: the Art of Jago and Emilio Isgrò – a marvellous tribute to contemporary art that will feature the sculpture of Jago and the poetry of Emilio Isgrò.
This event will also be broadcast live on TV around the world. For those who wish to experience the energy of the evening live, tickets are available exclusively through the Milan Cortina 2026 official channels.
Fondazione Arena’s tribute: Vivaldi's ‘L’Olimpiade’
23 February - 1 March 2026
Alongside the two Ceremonies, the Fondazione Arena di Verona is presenting an extraordinary event at Teatro Ristori: the staging of L'Olimpiade by Antonio Vivaldi.
Mixing musical virtuosity and powerful plot twists set in ancient Olympia, this event also marks a historic ‘first’ of the Fondazione Arena’s artistic teams on the stage of Teatro Ristori, creating an ideal bridge between athletic struggle and Baroque art.
Shows created by Balich Wonder Studio at the Arena di Verona Opera Festival
Marco Balich, together with his Balich Wonder Studio, has designed more than 20 Olympic ceremonies, including the opening of the Milan Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games at the San Siro Stadium in Milan.
But you may not know that he also developed two shows for the programme of the 103rd Arena di Verona Opera Festival 2026: two grandiose, immersive and multi-sensory experiences, which are set to fully redefine the concept of a concert.
